Yes — completely free to download and use. The core experience including Adventure, Daily Activities, Playground, and Journey are all free with no paywalls. A premium AI Speech Tutor subscription is planned for a future update, but the core app will always be free!
Stug is designed for children ages 4–12. The content, UI, and difficulty levels are all calibrated for early childhood through pre-teen development. The gamified format works especially well for kids in the 5–9 range.
Stug is currently only available on iOS — iPhone and iPad. Furthermore, only iOS devices with access to 17.6 or later are supported. Android and other platforms are not currently available but may be considered in the future.
No. Stug is a supplemental practice tool — not a replacement for professional speech therapy. We strongly encourage families to work alongside a licensed SLP. Stug is designed to make the daily practice portion more engaging and consistent, which supports the work done in formal therapy sessions!
Privacy & Safety
Yes. COPPA compliance was built into Stug from day one. We do not collect personal data from children, we do not serve ads, and we do not sell any user data. The app includes a PIN-protected parent control system and a full parental consent onboarding flow.
No. There are zero ads in Stug. We believe ads have no place in a children's app! Our monetization is through an optional premium subscription for advanced AI features.
No sign-up is required for children to use Stug. The app stores progress locally on the device. A parent account is optional and unlocks additional progress tracking features.
Microphone access is used solely for speech recognition during practice sessions. Audio is processed in real time and is not stored, sold, or shared with any third party. We take your child's privacy extremely seriously!
The app
The AI Speech Tutor listens to inputted prompts and uses advanced AI to analyze and respond in real time! All AI processing goes through a secure server.
Journey is a calm, soothing space inside Stug where kids can learn about speech and language differences at their own pace. It's designed to help children understand that what makes them different also makes them special with zero stigma!
Kids earn XP for completing levels, daily activities, and playground sessions. Along with completion in certain areas, they can earn credits. Credits can be spent in the Mini Mart on cosmetics for Stug. This includes but is not limited to: hats, sunglasses, crowns, and even sidekick companions! On top of all that, Streaks track consecutive days of practice and give kids a daily reason to come back.
Most of Stug YSC can be used offline including Adventure, Playground, Journey, Mini Mart, and Daily Activities. The AI Speech Tutor requires an internet connection since it processes prompts in real time.
